Looking for a job

Are you looking for a job?

Even nowadays, when the unemployment is quite high, you can successfully find a new job. There are several possibilities how to do it and it is only up to you which one you prefer. Definitely, it is good to combine them. If you have an access to the Internet, looking for a job will be easier for you. On the other hand, you will have to be fast and original in your reaction and replies to jobs offers, to be able to attract and persuade a human resources manager or consultant that you are the right candidate for the offered position and to have a chance to be invited for an interview.

If you do not have an access to the Internet, there are a lot of suitable offers in newspapers. You cannot make a mistake if you ask for a job directly potential employers.

Another advisable possibility is to visit an employment agency, which operates in your region and where job offers in the region are concentrated. So, you have a chance to interest, but you have to be active. Ensure recommendations from last jobs, write your CV and a motivation letter.

Do not forget Labour Office, where after registration, you will receive job offers, too. We do not recommend to rely only on this source and wait passively for offers. The active ones have a bigger chance.

How to write a CV correctly:

Your curriculum vitae (CV) presents you to your potential employer or it should attract an employment agency consultant to invite you for an interview. It means that it is an important document which in case you prepare it properly, can attract a human resources manager and ensure your personal presentation and “selling” of your experiences and skills directly in a company you would like to work for.

The standard is a structured CV. It means no stories or tales, only brief references and links to previous working experiences (always from the most recent to the first job), education, knowledge and skills.

Try to write the whole CV on one page A4 only. If you apply for more different positions, try to adjust your CV to each position. Do not use the same version of your CV all the time.

What a CV should contain:

1. Personal data

-          Name and surname

-          Domicile, phone number, e-mail address.

-          It is up to you if you write your birth date and marital status, too or not.

2. Experiences

-          Begin with the most recent job position. The name of the company, duration of your employment, name and description of your position cannot be missing.

3. Education

-          Place on the first position your last finished education.

-          In case you are still studying, write the expected year (month) of graduation.

4. Training and certificates

-          At first, write trainings and certificates (including the date when you passed it out) which are connected to the job position you are applying for.

5. Language knowledge

-          Write all languages you know, the level which you have achieved and include also all certificates you hold.

-          Take into account that in case you write “intermediate” or “advanced” level, the human resources manager will test you. He or she can for example conduct a part of your job interview in that language.

6. PC skills

-          Write programmes, applications or operating systems which you can use, include all achieved certificates.

-          Be more detailed in case you apply for an IT job position.

7. Other skills

-          There are positions where you need a special skills or certificates. Such as driving of automobiles (different groups of driving licences), operating of a lift truck, touch system, etc.

8. Interests, hobbies

-          State your interests in case you apply for a job where you need special personal skills, such as patience, responsibility, self-reliance).

Motivation letter or letter of application:

Maybe you have already seen a job offer where it was written that an applicant has to send a CV together with a motivation letter. In fact it is a summary why you are applying for that job position, why you think that you are the right candidate.

Write about your qualifications for achieving the job and your interests to work for that particular employer. You have to attract a human resources manager within a few seconds because there are dozens or hundreds more applicants very often. If you are successful, you have a chance to be invited for an interview.
